St Margarets is one of the great 'Wool Churches' of East Anglia and Cley is a beautiful little village by the sea, or 'next the sea' as they say round here. There is a rash of London overspill around here, and Cley certainly would not have supported a gourmet food shop before, one imagines. Whether that is a good or bad thing you will have to decide for yourself. What is indisputably good, however, is that it is home to the Cley Smokehouse, which produces the best smoked foods I have had in my life, including Red Herrings!
